Types of Lighting
By Harden Custom Homes 02 Feb 2016

Modern technology has made the options for the types of lighting sources in your new custom home immense.  There are so many different ways to illuminate your home that the inventors of the light bulb never imagined more than a century ago.  Each style of illumination produces its own quality of light and has its own features, so when you’re deciding how to illuminate your new home, it’s important to know how each style works and what it can provide for you. Incandescent Incandescent lights are still the most common kind of light and are based on the same technology as the first lightbulbs.  They produce light when an electric current passes through a filament designed to give off light.  These lightbulbs are generally less efficient than other lights because so much electricity is required to heat up and make the filament glow.  Generally these lightbulbs produce a warm light that is yellowish white and cozy and come in many shapes.   Halogen Halogen bulbs are also technically incandescent bulbs but filled with halogen gas in order to give a more intense and whiter light than other incandescent bulbs.  These are more efficient in that they create more light for the electricity they use, but they still use a lot of electricity and can get fairly hot.  However, halogen lights come in many sizes, which can accommodate them to many uses.   Fluorescent Fluorescent bulbs work by using electricity to excite gases in order to produce a visible glow.  This process allows fluorescent bulbs to use much less electricity than incandescent bulbs, and since they do not rely on a fragile filament, they can last much longer.  Because chemical processes create the light, the colors of fluorescent bulbs can vary quite widely, with many of them designed to mimic the warmth of standard incandescent bulbs.   LEDs LEDs are Light Emitting Diodes and are based on physical reactions that convert electricity to light.  They are usually quite small, but several of these diodes can be combined in a single fixture to create greater amounts of light.  LEDs are usually the most efficient and longest lasting of all types of light, and they are still relatively new in their use for household lighting.  They can come in many different colors, including bulbs that will change color with a remote.   There are many different options for lighting for your home, and each of these kinds of lighting comes in several different varieties.  With so many options, the possibilities are practically endless.  Whatever kind of lighting environment you want for your new custom home should be possible with some version of these kinds of lights.  If you have any questions about designing your lighting or designing your new custom home, be sure to contact Harden Custom Homes at (239) 603-6083 or stop by our Model Home at 2818 Tropicana Pkwy W., Cape Coral FL, 33993.
