Custom Home Builder Design Trends 2016
By Harden Custom Homes 26 Sep 2016

As a custom home builder in southwest Florida, we always have our finger on the design pulse. This year, 2016, there are some really unique and interesting design trends on the forefront.

  • Black and bronze stainless steel appliances are hot right now! The “normal” shiny chrome look is still acceptable and desired over white or black appliances. But, the new colors of stainless steel appliances will have you swooning!
  • The color white is the “it” color of the year. Which makes decorating an absolute breeze!
  • A new and fabulous trend is using outdoor fabrics inside of the home! Outdoor pillows and fabric colored stools and cushions are on point. They are very durable since they are made to handle outdoor elements. You can get colors that pop such as oranges, bright pinks, or vibrant blues or stay with the basics of beige, cream, and brown. The variety here is key!
  • Bidets! Yes, we said it! Bidets are on trend. Builders are making room for these in their floor plans, especially on full custom built homes.
  • A functional design feature is the use of barn doors on closets, pantries, and bedrooms. Painted white or stained a beautiful coordinating color, these large doors make quite the impact.
  • Repurposed or reclaimed wood is hot right now. By introducing this wood to the new “all white” trend, it warms rooms up tremendously. Used as cabinets, flooring, walls, accents and even wood beams overhead.
  • Freestanding tubs are everywhere in the design world right now. Especially the copper type.
  • Kitchen islands have enlarged into two islands. One usually has a small sink in it for food preparation, while the second island is used more for entertaining. Many homeowners place stools up to the second island for a perfect gathering space for friends and family.

These are some of the many trends that we find to be exciting in the world of custom home builder design. Our many floorplans have features that we know that you will love. Please contact Harden Custom Homes at 239-205-5075 or contact us through our website at HardenCustomHomes.com.
