Tips for a Custom Home
By Harden Custom Homes 19 Jan 2016

When you’re designing a new custom home, there are a lot of decisions that you will have to make, including the layout, the type of structure, and the builder who builds it.  There are a lot of things you’ll have to consider, and it can be quite a lot to think about.  Invariably, many people wind up forgetting to consider something or other about their new custom home design before the last minute, so in this article we’d like to mention a few general things to keep in mind when thinking about your new custom home. Know What You Need One of the most important things to be aware of when designing your new custom home is your own needs.  The easiest thing to figure out is how many bedrooms your new home will need to accommodate the family.  But equally important are things like whether you will need a home office or a working space or other specialized space. Plan for the future In addition to knowing your current requirements, be sure to plan for your needs a few years down the road.  For example, some people prefer to build the master bedroom on the ground floor so that when they get older they won’t have to climb a lot of stairs to get to it.  A young couple that is just married will probably want to think about extra bedrooms for potential children.  And if you know that one day you’ll want to deck out an impressive home theater, be sure to plan the house with that in mind. Avoid Trends If you design a new home by following all the “modern” trends, a few years from now when their trendiness has passed and something new has taken their place, your home will automatically feel “dated.”  If you want your home to always feel current, be sure to select features and materials that are classic. Splurge Here and There Remember that you will be living in your new custom home, so make sure you make it the way you want and the way you’ll enjoy and be comfortable in.  This means it’s probably a good idea to splurge here and there to make sure you get things just right so that you don’t regret any decisions you were forced into because you didn’t want to spend just a little extra.  Those little things will add up, and the last thing you want is to be dissatisfied with your brand new custom home. There are many things to keep in mind when thinking about designing your new custom home, and these are just a few general guidelines.  But if you understand your needs, both now and in the future, avoid trends that will date your home, and give yourself permission to spend a little more when it’s necessary, your new custom home should turn out to be a great new home that will give you years of enjoyment.  If you have any questions or want any further guidance in how to think about designing your home, be sure to contact Harden Custom Homes at (239) 205-5075 or stop by our model home at 2818 Tropicana Pkwy W., Cape Coral, FL 33993
