About Fort Myers

Fort Myers or Ft. Myers, is the county seat and commercial center of Lee County, Florida, United States. It has grown rapidly in recent years. Fort Myers is a gateway to the Southwest Florida region and a major tourist destination within Florida. The winter estates of Thomas Edison ("Seminole Lodge") and Henry Ford ("The Mangoes") are major attractions. The city is named after Colonel Abraham Myers.

The area is primarily served by Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW), located southeast of the city. It has been ranked as one of the top ten under ten million in the United States. Fort Myers is also home to the Calusa Nature Center and Planetarium which is a private, not-for-profit, environmental education organization.
