Should you include a sauna in your build?
By Harden Custom Homes 02 Mar 2017

Since you are starting from scratch, your home can be anything you want it to be. Your home is your sanctuary from the world. Coming home to relax after a long day is key. Adding a sauna to your master bath or pool bath is a luxury that has become attainable.

It may seem decadent, but in reality, saunas are a practical way to keep yourself healthy. They provide a range of benefits including:

  • Detoxification
  • Weight Loss
  • Pain Relief
  • Anti-Aging benefits
  • Improvement of skin issues
  • Improvement of breathing issues
  • Immunity boosting
  • Promotes better overall circulation

If a sauna is to be installed as part of your home it is best to decide on this at the get go as it needs to be included in the plumbing design as well as the electrical.

Even if you don’t want the sauna inside the house, the pool area can be another place to make your home stand out. It is important to note that if you are building an outdoor sauna, it will require more insulation than the indoor variety to maintain optimum heating.

Saunas are more than just a hot box. They can be customized to fit the desired user experience:

Questions to ask yourself:

What wood do you prefer? - Cedar, hemlock, pine, spruce? Each has their own benefit.

Flooring? - Concrete or wood?

Heat Source: Infrared? or traditional? - Dry or wet with stones?

Ceiling height should be no more than 7 feet to prevent heat escape.

Do you want to be able to rinse off after? - is the sauna by your shower? If it isn't you may want to opt for a sauna/shower combination out by the pool.

Not like enclosed spaces? - Add windows.

Add built-in speakers for music.

Rather than light switches add waterproof sensors to go on and off automatically.

Make sure whatever type of bench you choose it is comfortable for you. Straight is traditional, but curved benches are also an option and can be ergonomic for those with back problems or other health issues.

The options really are endless. When drawing out the plans for your new customized Harden Home, a sauna can add that special something. Give Harden Custom Homes a call at 239-205-5075 or visit www.hardencustomhomes.com to make your dream home a reality.
