New Home Design Using Feng Shui
By Harden Custom Homes 11 Sep 2016

Feng Shui is an ancient Chinese system of arranging your new home design in a manner to facilitate the flow of qi, or life energy. This type of designing can become very intricate, depending on how far you want to delve into it. We have put together some feng shui tips about doors and basic placement during the build of your new home.

  • Lot location and Neighborhood: take a look around the neighborhood. Is it clean? Do the surroundings have a good feel? Placing your home on a pie shaped lot is ideal. Having the back of the house placed on the back, larger area of the lot is considered classic feng shui positioning.
  • Front Door: your front door and the walkway leading to the door are very important parts of the feng shui design principle. The door itself should be strong and large in proportion to the house. Use your landscaping to create a large beautiful pathway to the front door. The color of your front door should be based on the direction the new home design faces.
  • Avoid Disrupting Good Qi Flow: the entranceway to your home should not face anything disruptive of a good energy flow. Anything that is distracting such as looking into a messy closet, a bathroom, or directly up a flight of stairs is discouraged. Your new home build should be mindful of the first impression by using the entranceway to create a good energy flow into your home. Avoid aligning your front and back door. This encourages the good e nergy to flow out the back door.
  • Avoid Grouping Doors: in regards to interior doors, try not to group them all into one area. This grouping is referred to as “arguing doors”, meaning that the energy in that area tends to be angry and unstructured.
